In 1972 according to the order #88 of the Ministry of higher and specialized secondary education of RSFSR in Ulyanovsk polytechnical institute was organized education of research and educational specialists by means of post-graduate study on three specialties:
“Power stations” (Scientific adviser Andreev V.A.):
“Mechanical engineering technology” (Scientific adviser Khudobin L.V.);
“Elements and technical means of management and regulation” (Scientific adviser Bely M.I.).
In 1973 was introduced a new specialty of the post-graduate study:
“Electrical machines” (Scientific adviser Kislitsyn A.L.).
From 1981 till 1989 were introduced 14 specialties of the post-graduate study:
“Dynamics, durability of devices and gear”;
“Mathematical and program provision of computers and systems”;
“Engineering science and machine components”;
“Fluid, gas and plasma mechanics”;
“General power engineering”;
“Pick-and-place devices”;
“Devices and methods of electrical and magnetic quantity“;
“Processes of mechanical and physical-and-chemical processing, machines and instrument”;
“Radio networks and television systems and devices”;
“Radio systems for special purposes, including SHF-technique and technology of their production”;
“Special-purpose systems of information processing and management”;
“Theoretical foundations of electrical engineering”;
“Safety and fire-prevention measures”;
“Solid-state physics”.
In 1990-2001 were introduced 24 more specialties:
“Astronometry and celestial mechanics”;
“Geoecology”;
“Differential equations”;
“Mathematical analysis”;
“Mathematical and program provision of computers, complexes, systems and networks”;
“Environmental protection and regional use of natural recourses”;
“Processes and devices of chemical technology”;
“Russian literature”;
“Computer-aided design systems (according to branches)”;
“Social philosophy”;
“Building constructions, houses and erections”;
“Building materials and units”;
“Theory and methods of professional education”;
“Theory of mechanisms and machines”;
“Thermoelectric power stations (thermal part)”;
“Thermal physics and molecular physics”;
“Technologies and non-cutting shaping machines”;
“Technologies and equipment for mechanical and physical-and-mechanical processing”;
“Technology and primary processing of textile and raw materials”;
Technology of aircraft production”;
“Philosophical problems of natural science and technique”;
“Economics, planning, organizational management of national economy and its branches”;
“Economic theory”;
“Electrical complexes and systems, including management and regulation”.
13 of 42 above-named specialties are closed for different reasons, and some of the specialties underwent editorial changes.
Now 29 post-graduate specialties are available:
“Antennas, SHF-devices and their technologies”;
“Geoecology”;
“Dynamics, durability of machines, devices and gear”;
“Differential equations”;
“Mathematical modeling, numerical methods and program complexes”;
“Theoretical engineering, driving gear system and machine components”;

“Projection, construction and production of aircraft”;
“Radio engineering, including systems and devices of radio navigation, radiolocation and television”;
“Russian literature”;
“Computer-aided design systems (according to branches)”;
“Social philosophy”;
“Building constructions, houses and erections”;
“Building materials and units”;
“Theory and methods of professional education”;
“Theory of mechanisms and machines”;
“Thermoelectric power stations, their power systems and units”;
